With miles of empty golden beaches, beautiful turquoise waters, pounding seas and rugged cliffs the Isle of Harris & Lewis is like nowhere else in Scotland, or the rest of the UK for that matter. The Outer Hebrides offer an amazing diversity of scenery, with truly remote and wild landscapes, making it a photographer’s paradise. The Isle of Harris is so rugged it even stood in for planet Jupiter in the iconic sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

For our photographic odyssey we’ll be based in the charming Harris Hotel in Tarbert, which has easy access to the amazing beaches of Harris including one of the world’s best – Luskentyre. It’s also close by to the winding Golden Road, which twists and weaves through endless fjord-like inlets and abandoned crofts. Oh and the food in the hotel is exceptional !!

This truly is one of the most remarkable places I have ever been and I can’t wait to show you many of the hidden gems I’ve discovered along the way. With it’s fast moving weather systems offering the most incredible light, we’ll learn to adapt to all types of weather and get the best out of it.

On this relaxed workshop we’ll visit the most iconic locations Harris & Lewis have to offer and have great fun along the way! I like to keep workshop groups small to enable a tailored approach - with only 6 spots available you’ll receive personal guidance and training.

This workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their photography, so photographers of all levels of experience are welcome. Whether you’re looking to discover new photographic locations, hone your compositional skills or a beginner looking to begin your photographic journey, I will take the time to improve your photography skillset and share valuable knowledge enabling you to create images you can be proud of.

Only a 10% deposit is required to secure your spot.
Remainder balance is due 12 weeks prior to start date.

The Programme

We’ll meet up at 2pm on 25th March when we’ll check in to the beautiful Harris Hotel, and begin 7 action packed days working the many locations I know in the area. Our sunrise locations will be close to the hotel, allowing us to take advantage of a hearty hotel breakfast after our morning shoot, then back out to explore some daytime locations followed by the iconic sunset landmarks.

The itinerary for the workshop will be as flexible as possible, I’ll be keeping a close eye on weather forecasts to ensure we have the best shooting conditions for specific locations. In order to maximise your chances of creating breathtaking images we’ll recact to the weather and tidal conditions, ensuring you are in the best spots to capture Harris & Lewis in it’s best light.

WORKSHOP ITINERARY

Our Harris & Lewis Photography Workshop will have a flexible schedule with no fixed daily programme. Keeping a close eye on weather and tidal conditions, I will adapt & react to the weather, bringing you to the best locations in the best light to maximise your opportunities to capture amazing images. Our hotel is central to everywhere we will shoot with most places within 30-60 minutes away. Sunrise is approx 6.15am and sunset 6.45pm.

Arrival day: meeting at 2pm to check into the Harris Hotel, we’ll then head out for our first sunset session followed by a welcome meal in the hotel.

Days 2 to 5: our daily schedule will begin with an early morning sunrise location followed by a hearty breakfast in our hotel. After a short break we’ll then head out to explore some daytime locations and learn to perfect our long exposure techniques. Lunch will be on the go to ensure we cover as many locations as possible. We’ll aim to arrive at our sunset location an hour prior to sunset, to scout out the best compositions and ensuring we capture the best light of the day. Then we’ll head back to the hotel for a delicious evening meal, discuss our days shooting and plans for the following day.

Departure day: we will have another sunrise shoot nearby our hotel again followed by breakfast. I’ll then transport participants to either the airport or ferry terminals where the workshop will conclude at 12noon. Final goodbyes, lots of hugs and leaving with memories to last a lifetime.

The workshop is designed to be engaging, fun, flexible and educational.
